The forerunner of Twin City Bible Church was the Sattes Community Church, located about one mile east of our present site near the St. Albans/Nitro Bridge. Pastor Don Cummings became the full-time pastor of that congregation in 1969. He had a vision for a strong, fundamental, missions-minded church to grow and reach many for Christ in our community. Under his leadership, in 1974, our current property was purchased and plans were made for construction of a church building. The ground-breaking service was held on Mother’s Day of 1976. Dr. Lester Pipkin , President of Appalachian Bible College, was the special speaker that day and made the statement “Until now this has just been dirt. From this day forward it will be called ‘holy ground.’ ” The official dedication service was held on Father’s Day, June 17th , 1977 with Dr. Pipkin speaking again. Pastor Don served the church until the spring of 1986.
In late fall of 1986, Pastor Norris Belcher from the Bell Creek Missionary Baptist Church in Dixie, WV, accepted a call to become the church’s second full time-time Senior Pastor. Under Pastor Norris’ leadership, the church continued to grow, many were saved, and the education/gymnasium addition was constructed. Pastor Norris served until the spring of 1990.
In February of 1991, Pastor Bill Egerdahl was called to Twin City from Lawrence, Kansas and he faithfully served until July of 2007. Over the years, several from our congregation have been called to full-time preaching ministry or the mission field; under Pastor Bill’s ministry that call grew even greater. The true hallmark of Pastor Bill’s ministry was his mentoring of young men for the gospel ministry. Under his leadership many continued to respond to full-time service both from summer interns already called to full-time service, as well as others from our own congregation.
Presently our church is privileged to have Pastor Scott Bandy serving as the fourth Senior Pastor in the church’s history. From the mission field, he answered the call to be our Pastor in September of 2008. Pastor Scott is one of the men from our own congregation who answered God’s call. His ministry is marked by a strong commitment to dynamic expository preaching and a driving passion to see godly men lead their homes and local church. Having served for three years in Ireland, Pastor Scott’s burden for missions has translated into a vast enlargement of our mission budget. Under his ministry, many have come to saving faith in Christ and have followed the Lord in believer’s baptism. He recently led us in a total remodel and expansion of our Lobby, which has allowed us to enjoy each other’s fellowship in an even greater way.
